General comments

This was a very pleasing show which was a success in my opinion because of hard work. To be honest the content was not that exciting and creative but it was perfectly acceptable with a nice jingle package there was no point in this show where I felt any team member was going to drop the ball and the show was going to come off air.

The presenters were well prepared with solid scripts and responded to instructions by the producer. Perhaps a little too well scripted as when the programme went off track slightly you were at a bit of a loss for a second where a looser structure may have meant smoothing it over. This is something which will come with time. Pace was good.

The BA was focused on her task. Nothing went wrong because you knew what you were doing. You were on the faders working the mics when needed, making sure the audio was lined up and taking levels.

The producer was calm in the show and although I feel there needed to be a little more control in the week prior to the programme in the last few days you led the team and were solid on the day making bold and firm decisions.

There was considerable use of social media to drum up an audience and expectation prior to broadcast. The in studio experience left me with little to do since there was no intervention needed. So little that the Siren technical helper quickly judged he was not needed and went for his lunch!

What for next time.. More creative interviews and perhaps in quality and more local stuff.

0 News This played in automatically as it should and the team was ready for this. Out of the news with an automatic jingle which you have created yourselves.. nice work which sets the scene

2 Introduction Clear instruiction from the producer and snappy on the mics from the BA. The presenters sound a little nervous in this opening section. Not surprised so well done for driving through it. A bright and pacey sound from you both. Well doen for branding and introducing the show and yourself. This is important. Ok you don’t want to waffle on but the listeners need to know who you are and what’s happening.

Branding and trawl for the multi-platform…good. Could have done with a bit of a firmer cue into this audio.

Vox fine in itself. Nothing technical wrong with it and the people you had were good informed speaker.. levels a little low even though I listened through prior to broadcast and boosted them. A lesson for us all. They need to come up but well done to the producer and BA for trying to take action at this point.

Back anno with multiplatform, could have commented on some of the point raised… just how frightening is Bananas in Panamas supposed to be!

4 Party planet

Firmer cue needed. Perhaps an odd combination of vox and interview. Could you have also got some wild track from the show with her showing you around and the rustle of things. There is a clear plan to make this creative and experience will improve this.

An eye on the audience and Siren’s procedures and audience with the age disclaimer.

6 Costume vox This quick move between sections gives a well-paced and young feel to the show. Out with some decent branding and mentioning your names again

8 Chat Bright and informed. You have a nice interaction with each other. Little to say about the producer in this as there is nothing I think you should have intervened with. You were doing but its smooth… BA throughout you are spit on with hitting the button.
9 Vox films

Nice quality interviewees in this. This would have the audience thinking about their own view..

Do you mention the producer and team? In my view you shouldn’t do it but I know other have different views. I think it breaks the magic of radio but I am willing to debate the matter.

What can I say. A piece chosen for its relevance to the show. Clearly someone was listening last year!

Well done to the BA at this point, you recognised the false ending to the song and didn’t crash the jingle… nice branded jingle which highlights is important. Presenters perhaps a little quiet on the mic at the back anno? Not sure why.

14 Ghost Hunter Good introduction and a nice interview. I would have liked it to be quality audio rather than the phone but it’s a decent line. Nice questions and interaction from the presenter. Levels could have come up on this one as well. I think the BA had it as high as she could on the desk.. something for other groups to learn from when editing the audio make sure there is plenty of level.

I was a little worried about this on listening back. I think we got away with it but I think even for me who tends to have a more liberal view of radios relationship with Ofcom this rang alarm bells. You were personally describing your use of something like a ouija board. This from BBC Guidelines.

“Demonstrations which purport to be real must not be shown

before the watershed or on radio when children are particularly likely to be in our audience, or in online content likely to appeal to a significant proportion of children.” For this I think we can include factual descriptions.

This from Ofcom “2.6 Demonstrations of exorcism, the occult, the paranormal, divination, or practices related to any of these that purport to be real (as opposed to entertainment) must be treated with due objectivity. (See Rule 1.27 in Section One: Protecting the Under-Eighteens, concerning scheduling restrictions.)”

I think the second presenter in this area should have shown added objectivity. For this a more cynical stance.

20 Vox

A slight wobble in the script at this point with the presenters not sure where top go but well done for smoothing through it.

Once again some added cynicism needed I think. Don’t just take it as read, mention some of the other explanations which may have been possible.

22 Ghost tours UK You needed a firmer cue on this. Remember people may only have just tuned in and would not have known who the chap speaking was or what the programme was about so a cue which summed up what he said in the last section and re-introduced him.

You talk up the music which is the way it should be

30 Fears Nice presenter talk up of this subject which sounded genuine. Don’t make things up for the sake of radio. So don’t say you like a film or some food. You will be found out. But that didn’t seem to be the case in this area. Did it go on a bit? Yes. The producer should have been on to this I feel.

You move from the chat smoothly. Don’t block… what I mean by this is use her first line as your cue.. “that’s a lot of pumpkins”

Nice bright interview and the line quality was fine.

41 Chat and what’s on and film review Follow on from the last one a short what’s on this was a nice pieces of local news after all the national stuff. You are off mic a little, perhaps you were turning to your co presenter.. not too bad though. Did the producer notice this and offer advice…no.

43 Ghost busters People were dancing outside the studio to this!
54 Music Thriller This was played out for this long under siren edict. Its not ideal but there are strong practical reasons for giving this buffer.

The feedback that we received from our tutor was good, i enjoyed and thought the show went well, but i felt like it could have been better on my half of presenting, i felt like i could have added more and tried to talk more towards the audience than at the audiences. there are a few mess ups within the begin where me and my co-presenter seem to rush our speech because we were both nervous which was understandable for our first live show but this can and has been improved upon.

when it came to some of the voxes that we had created we noticed that the levels were a bit low and can be improved on and double checked when recording and also if needed brought up when in edited i have learnt from this and know  when continued to work on other lives shows throughout the year and has taught me to always double check what has been produced after going out and recording voxes and interviews.

i think as presenters we could have been strong with the flow of information that we had when queuing in interviews and songs as well as having stronger back anno’s this can be improved on by having a more of a solid que sheet when we were presenting.

the interviews we conducted needed to be more entertaining for the audience. we could have asked more and maybe a different variety of question for certain interviews such as the party planet interview but by being given this feedback i have learnt then when conducting and interview like this you can come up with more entertaining question which can improve the audiences enjoyment of listening to the show.

when it came to talking about Ghost tours UK and the world i have personal done with them we were on a thin line talking about glass divanation because in some ways it can be taken as if we have done a ouji board this is different and we should have made this fact a little clearer or looked into Ofcom regulations more than we thought, from the first show after this mistake we always check to make sure that we are within the guidelines of Ofcom and BBC regulations.

over all from the feed back that we received i think the outcome of the show went very well, with a few minor changes that would be needed for future shows and the major lesson would be to double check Ofcom regulation on the content to see if it is in context and age appropriate for live radio broadcast.
